June is National Safety Month
Regardless of the type of work your company does, a safety first workplace environment focuses on eliminating the leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths through a process of creating awareness of risks and hazards. Educating workers to conduct tasks safely, such as through the use of tool box talks and safety demonstration days, can contribute significantly to the reduction of and/or eliminate risks.
Safety plans are comprehensive tools that provide a framework for all safety practices. Each plan is targeted to a specific activity or department. In essence, it gives every employee the necessary information on how to handle certain situations, from a spill in the hallway to a fire in the rubbish can.
Important Note: Remember that safety plans are living documents. As your company evolves and grows, so will your safety needs. Safety plans should be reviewed frequently (annually at a minimum) to ensure they remain current and accurate.
